about

Poem performed by Miss Yankey

lyrics

Black King.

We have been seeking your presence in the present,
but it’s hard to stay present when our past is masked,
and the world has been so convincing

in having women thinking

that Black Kings are a thing of the past.

There are people who take more offence

at you referring to yourself as a King,

than they do when you use derogatory terms

to define your divine being.

King is not a pointless platitude.
It's a purpose driven attitude.

Looking in the mirror
and seeing you,

looking back at you.

Black King,

you are a blessing.

And I call you a King because

I want you to know that there is nothing

that can lessen my respect for the lessons

you are living, and the love you are giving
despite the negative stereotypes.

This system doesn’t want

to see Black Kings rise.

Bloodlines hidden from timelines.

Time flies,

lies fly,
as I lie here contemplating

what it means to be a King

in a corrupted kingdom.

How do you stay royal in a criminal system
where Kings bleed blood for thin blue lines,

blue taking Black blood then telling white lies,

only these lies aren’t little.
Belittling the magnitude of melanin.
Emasculating and separating

the masculine from the divine feminine.

Yang separated from yin.
Man separated from kin.
Seeking solace from outside,
instead of knowledge from within.

You are a library of skin
filled with diaries from Kings.

Feminine and masculine energies in balance

could birth a revolution if we focused,

so we must find mutualism in our symbiosis.

It is time to re-align,
recognise that your birthright
is not confined to carrying the weight
of another man’s world on your mind.

Take time.

Being a King does not always mean
being a conqueror.
There is power in preparation.
Take time.

Find your soul tribe,

get your mind right,
write your own story,
that’s history –

so make sure it’s told right.

Own the sole rights,

don’t let them buy your soul,
or your essence may be sampled and sold.

You are the essence of a time,

and we’re living in a time

where time is always of the essence.

Take time.

Re-align,
design your own timeline.
Black Kings are not a thing of the past,

they are the present and the future.
So take time to listen
to a Black Kings truth
